The Art of Resilience
It is through our darkest hours that we always seem to find a glimmer of light. Resilience isn’t the absence of struggle, it’s what grows on the other side of it. This is the story of how I learned that, and why I built Kouraz to carry it forward.
Where Resilience Began
Sometimes life throws you into the deep end when you least expect it. One moment, everything felt steady. The next, a sudden family crisis triggered a cascade of stress that overwhelmed my body, pushing me into a health crisis I could never have imagined.
What followed was a series of diagnoses: mycoplasma pneumonia, a benign thyroid tumour, and then, most painfully, stage 4 endometriosis. Each one felt like my body sending the same message that something wasn’t right, and it was time to find a different way forward.
That’s when resilience stopped being a word and became a practice.
Learning to Heal: Nature, My Dog, and My Mind
At my lowest, nature became my refuge. I leaned into the quiet of the outdoors, found steadiness in the unconditional love of my dog, and poured what energy I had left into healing. It wasn’t only about sitting with the pain, it was about learning, growing, and finding a way forward that was more aligned with my body and my soul.
I began researching natural plant alternatives, at first as a distraction, then as something closer to devotion. I studied their chemical structures, their growing patterns, and how they’d been used for centuries across cultures to heal and regenerate. I started growing plants of my own, even attempting to cultivate a small rainforest, and learned, without quite realising it, that I was practising the ancient Japanese art of Shinrin Yoku: forest bathing. Nature became medicine, and I became both its patient and its student.
Ancestors, Energy, and Ancient Wisdom
The deeper I went, the more I found myself drawn to traditions far older than my own understanding, ancient Egyptian plant wisdom, Japanese healing practices, and the rhythms of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I also discovered something that reframed how I understood myself: according to Human Design, I am a Reflector, a rare type, deeply attuned to the energy of my environment. Understanding this gave me language for something I’d always felt but never named, and it shaped how I began to channel intention into everything I created.
The Words We Speak, The Seeds We Plant
Although born in Surrey, my family heritage begins in Mauritius. Growing up I was surrounded by stories, traditions and a deep respect for the natural world. A connection that roots me.
One of the simplest joys of this journey has been planting seeds, watching something grow from nothing into something whole. I found myself talking to my plants without quite noticing I was doing it, and later learned I wasn’t alone in believing that mattered. Dr Masaru Emoto’s work on water and consciousness taught me that the energy behind our words and thoughts has real impact. The way we speak to ourselves, and to the world around us, holds power. The lesson wasn’t only about plants. It was about extending to myself the same care I so easily gave to others.

Kouraz: Resilience, Bottled
Kouraz means courage in Mauritian Creole. It is this courage that I carry. Kouraz is everything I’ve learned, lived, and healed through over twenty years, the fusion of ancestral wisdom, modern energy, and a journey I never chose but wouldn’t undo.
I didn’t create Kouraz to be just another skincare brand. I created it as a sanctuary, a space where nature, wisdom, and resilience converge. Every product carries more than an ingredient list, it carries the intention behind it, the histories that shaped it, and the same resilience that carried me from crisis to calm.
Kouraz exists to support your own journey of renewal, to help turn pressure into power, the way I had to learn to do myself.
Take courage. Take Kouraz. The art of resilience begins now.
